TSUTOMU OSHIMA
imported the Karate to United States in 1955

Born in 1930, Tsutomu Oshima made its first contacts with the martial arts at 3 years old. It is at the prestigious Waseda university that Mr. Oshima began Shotokan Karate under the control of Master Funakoshi in 1948. In 1953, he become captain of Waseda. He received of Master Funakoshi, the rank of Sandan with the highest mark of the group esclusively made up of Japanese people.

It is in 1955 that master Oshima leaves for America. He was the first to teach Karate on our continent. Today, he directs the oldest association of Karate in America. He is recognized as the greatest still alive Master.

The instructors of the dojo of La Prairie have taught traditional Shotokan
Karate for 30 years. The seniors of the dojo follow and transmit
to the juniors the teaching of the Master Tsutomu Oshima.
